Vince Owens

Mr. Owens has 25 years of medical device industry experience, including 12 years as CEO of implantable neuromodulation device startups. Prior to joining Functional Neuromodulation as a director in 2012, he was Co-Founder and CEO of Intelect Medical, a developer of neuromodulation technologies including Guide DBS and directional DBS leads. Mr. Owens led Intelect from startup in 2005 through acquisition by Boston Scientific in 2011. Prior to Intelect, Mr. Owens was CEO of Biomec Cardiovascular, a contract developer of neuromodulation and CRM leads, through acquisition by Enpath Medical (Greatbatch). Mr. Owens serves on the boards of several early stage medical device companies as well as having previously served on technology commercialization boards at Cornell University and Case Western Reserve University. Mr. Owens received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and his MBA from Ashland University.
Andres Lozano, MD, PhD
Founding Scientist, Chairman of SAB, Director
Dr. Lozano is the Professor and Chairman of the Division of Neurosurgery, and R.R. Tasker Chair in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery of the University Health Network and the University of Toronto. Dr. Lozano originated the concept of treating memory disorders using DBS and co-founded Functional Neuromodulation after successful completion of a pilot study of DBS in six Alzheimer's patients. Dr. Lozano is broadly published in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, consulting with leading companies on neurological and psychiatric issues. He is an inventor on numerous patents as an individual and jointly with leading neuromodulation innovators. Dr. Lozano obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Ottawa and his Ph.D. in neurobiology and neurosurgical training from McGill University.
Steve Targum, MD
Chief Clinical Advisor, Acting CMO
Dr. Targum recently served as an Executive-in-Residence at Oxford Bioscience Partners, where he was engaged in advising companies in CNS drug development. He consults widely to the pharmaceutical industry regarding the design and implementation of clinical trials for new psychiatric and neurological drugs. Dr. Targum founded PharmaStar, a global rater training and medical education company focused on CNS drug development and international clinical trials. Previously, he was Professor of Psychiatry and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Mental Health Sciences at Hahnemann University School of Medicine. Dr. Targum has a B.A. in biology from Colgate University and an M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
